artC India is excited to announce Hicham Berrada show from August 1st till january 31st 2016 in collaboration with Institut Français en Inde.
The artist is expected to come to India in December 2015 for a performance at Mumbai Art Room and a residency at What about art.
Born in 1986 in Casablanca in Morocco, Hicham Berrada lives and works in Paris, France. He is a graduate of the National Fine Arts Academy of Paris and is one of the most promising young French artists of his generation, exhibiting at prestigious spaces like the Lyon Biennale, Palais de Tokyo, and PS1 in New York.
Berrada’s work is a mix of artistic and scientific concerns. Berrada adds a sense of magic and wonder into our imaginations about the origins of the universe. Working like a painter, he sets up scientific situations that imitate natural processes and atmospheric conditions, generating worlds full of fascinating colours and shapes in his works. While the artist sources his chemicals from India, this will be his first exhibition within the country.
ArtC is pleased to present 4 works by Hicham Berrada that show his work with “Chemical Theater” where the artist performs by making chemicals react in front of a live audience.
Hicham Berrada combines different chemical products in a beaker, causing a mythical world to emerge. These transformations of matter put into motion by his manipulations are simultaneously filmed and projected onto the screen, plunging the spectator into a world of fascinating colours and forms. These recorded footage is later edited into the kind of videos we see here.
